EICH, Robert

[font=font157032]HERSCHER [mdash] [/font]Robert L. Eich, 88, of Herscher, passed away Friday (Dec. 20, 2024), at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
He was born May 21, 1936, in Campus, the son of Roy and Viola (Zeller) Eich. Robert married Rena Guest on Feb. 11, 1961, in Kankakee.
Robert was a self-employed plumber and owned R. Eich & Sons Plumbing and Heating and Air Conditioning in Herscher for 47 years. He was the chief engineer at St. James Hospital in Pontiac, and director of facilities at Joliet Junior College.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and reading. He was a 50-year member of the Herscher Lions Club, former mayor and trustee for the Village of Herscher, and a 40-year volunteer for the Herscher Fire Department. He also served as a member of the Herscher Chamber of Commerce and was a founding member of the Pontiac Jaycees.
Robert was a 12-year veteran of the National Guard.
He was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Rena Eich, of Herscher; two sons, Steven and Anna Eich, of La Grange, and Corey and Loretta Eich, of Herscher; one daughter, Lesa Kline, of Saunemin; four brothers, Gene Eich, of Clearwater, Fla., Leroy (Linda) Eich, of Frostproof, Fla., Gary (Sheri) Eich, of Bourbonnais, and David (Kathy) Eich, of Rockford; four grandchildren, Eric (Amanda) Hall, of Pontiac, Linnea Eich, of La Grange, Emerson Eich, of La Grange, and Bella Eich, of Herscher; three great-grandchildren, Addison, Kylie and Harper Hall, of Pontiac; two sisters-in-law, Betty Eich, of Romeoville, Mary Lous Ericsson, of Rogers, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one infant son, Michael Eich; grandson, Trevor; one sister, Evelyn Eich Hanlon; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, James and Delores Eich, Chuck Eich, Sharon Eich, Maureen Eich and Sue Eich; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Zelma Guest; one niece, Nancy Eich; and three nephews, Lonnie Anderson, Jeff Eich and Travis Eich.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, until the noon memorial Mass, both at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher. Inurnment will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Herscher.
Memorials may be made to the Herscher Fire Department or the Herscher Lions Club.
