JD Melton, age 82, of London, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
He leaves behind his wife, Juanita Caudill Melton; three children, Shannon Melton & wife Sheila, Davan Smith, all of London, KY, Jay Melton & wife Gail of Lawrenceburg, IN; three siblings, Genevieve Dixon of Portsmouth, OH, Imogene Ashley of Milton, WV, Guy C. Melton & wife Angela of Hurricane, WV; twelve grandchildren, James Geyer, Ashley Geyer, Kristen Geyer, Jazmine Melton, Alex J. Melton, Mikayla Whitaker, Matthew Smith, Nathan Melton, Krystal Hutton, Hunter Melton, Kyky Melton, Jayna Melton; plus a host of great grandchildren, and other family and friends to mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Bulah Smith Melton; two children, Tonya Melton Geyer, Tresea Jent; his sister, Brenda Sue Melton; and by his brother, Gale Melton.
JD was a proud member of the Air National Guard Reserves. Outside of his military service, JD was a man of many passions. He found immense joy in playing his guitar and banjo and fishing.
JD’s most profound joy, however, came from his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who worked tirelessly to provide for and care for his loved ones. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took great pride in watching them grow and flourish. His family was his greatest treasure, and he was their rock—steadfast, loving, and always present.
JD’s hard work and dedication extended beyond his professional and musical pursuits; they were the hallmarks of his character. He was a man who faced challenges with resilience and approached life with a spirit of generosity and care. JD Melton’s memory will be forever cherished, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services for JD Melton will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Casey Hampton officiating. Burial will follow at A. R. Dyche Memorial Park in London, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 20, 2024 beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour, also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
