Romero, John C.

John Charles Cesar Romero, 86, of Effingham, IL, died on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at home. He was surrounded by love. He left this life to be in Heaven with Jesus.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon on Saturday prior to the service at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

John was born on June 30, 1938 in Dixon, New Mexico, the son of Ruben and Mary (Berry) Romero.
John is survived by his loving wife, Paulena (Roellig) Romero; four children, Michael Romero, Sean Woolridge, Heather (Woolridge) Gilbert (significant other, Bradley Bullock), and Patrick Romero (significant other, Barbara Ruffner); and son-in-law, Roy Seeman. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren, Henry Guthrie along with Jennaca and Callyssa Gilbert (their father, Ray Gilbert). John had a huge loving family of siblings and his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brother, James Romero, of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; oldest child, Roseanne (Romero) Seeman; siblings, Harold Romero, Edith Garcia, Ethel Garcia, Mary Louis Hernandez, and George Segovia.
To know John was to know laughter and happiness. There was never a dull moment in that he could bring joy to all by his orneriness and jokes. He never knew a stranger and was friendly to all he met. John worked at Fedders Air Conditioning in Effingham for over 30 yrs. After a short stint of retirement, he began working at Walmart building bikes. He was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He served as Elder, Usher, and key holder to the church. His favorite pastime was watching sports. He had excessive enthusiasm and intense devotion to the Chicago Cubs and Da Bears. His favorite color was clear.
